Description

Built in 1770, the picturesque General Lachlan McIntosh House is considered to be the oldest brick residence in the state of Georgia. In the year of 1783, the first constitutional session of Georgia Legislature was held in this very home and shortly after visited by George Washington himself in 1791. After undergoing an expansive renovation, this luxurious estate offers a one-of-a-kind Savannah experience. This 3-story brick stuccoed home is situated on East Oglethorpe Avenue. Offering an exquisite five bedrooms, each fitted with their own en-suite bathroom, you'll never want to leave!

You'll enjoy lounging in the main living area that boasts with natural light, and overlooks History Enriched Oglethorpe Avenue. The architectural focal point from the interior is the winding staircase, where murals of Lachlan McIntosh and George Washington have been displayed though decorative only. Your party may have a hard time choosing which suite is theirs. George Washington's room has been deemed favorite, but which will you choose? Each bedroom upstairs is fitted with a plush King bed, en-suite bathroom with spacious walk-in showers, and ability to control the rooms temperature to desire. On the third floor, once know as the smoking deck, the patio overlooks some of Savannah's oldest structures. While not attached to the main level, no detail has been spared in the garden level apartment with full kitchen, original fireplace dating back to 1764, Queen bed, and en-suite bathroom.

What is parking like for this home?
There is a large driveway behind the home with private parking for up to 9 mid-size vehicles, a rarity in the downtown historic district!

The house is in a great location, we were able to walk to everything. Exceptionally clean, kitchen well stocked, comfortable beds. Best part was each bedroom had its own bath and thermostat. Somewhat loud location but didn’t bother us at all.

Great location with the exception of the busy intersection & Fire Station across the streetLoved the house, the bedrooms in the main home were exceptionally comfortable. The “queen” bed in the lower level apartment was NOT ‍. It would’ve been especially helpful to have the appliance manuals handy for the oven & dishwasher since they uncommon brands.
Lastly, there was an issue with retrieving the “single set of keys” and then making sure all 5 couples had access when needed..not possible!

The property was exactly as pictured. Very clean and the beds were amazing which isn't usually the case for us. Other than the noise level (which was totally disclosed) we had a perfect stay. Our only suggestion is there needs to be at least a full length mirror in the house. We would definitely return❤️.

Gorgeous house, and quite comfortable. All of my guests were happy with their accommodations. Wonderful location — even the fire station across the street was not bad at all (and I'm a light sleeper). The one and only thing I can find to complain about was that the fitted sheet was too small for my bed, but that was minor in comparison to all that was wonderful. Would definitely stay here again.

This is such an amazing place in a great location. Easy walk to the river. Bathroom in every bedroom. Large closets and plenty of space to unpack. Beds were comfortable aside from the pillows (hard as rocks) I only wish they had a broom and mop or swifter in the house, as we were there for almost a week and would have really liked to clean up a little.

The house was perfectly set up for our 5 couples. HOWEVER... the house is located on a Main Street in Savannah. The bus, truck, trolley, car, motorcycle, pedestrian, fire engine noise was very loud and constant until well after midnight. If you have sleep issues this house is not for you. Also, the bedrooms are very beautiful and beds are comfortable but the bed linens do not fit the beds. In this kind of upscale home one would expect better bed linens.

Accommodation was excellent. Had a little trouble getting keys to the place that worked to open the doors but management company stuck with it to get working keys to us. The advertisement for this place did not mention that it is very close to the fire station. We heard and saw more fire trucks in 3 days than I have in 20 years but we became accustomed to it.

This exceptional property would please a family or group of friends traveling together. The renovations were done with a discerning eye. Every bedroom is large and comfortable with an en-suite bathroom. The living room, dining room, and kitchen are well appointed and a comfortable size. The location is great for walking the old town of Savannah.

We needed a large house with room enough for 8 women for a 50th birthday celebration. This room met our sleeping arrangement needs. Each room is large with a king bed and it's own en suite bathroom. The basement has its own apartment with a queen bed. The apartment comes with the main house.
Although it slept all of us, there wasn't enough room to hang out in the living room--an apartment sized couch and a couple chairs that weren't comfortable, one that was. There is a dining table and chairs but three of the chairs were broken and the rest were fine for dinner but not relaxing.
The house is in an excellent location, right in the middle of the historic area. If you rent this house, you need to be able to handle emergency vehicles blasting sirens ALL night through the weekend. The house is old, so it seems as if those sirens are IN your bedroom!!!

Management did a fantastic job managing expectations and making for an easy entry. The home is absolutely beautiful. The artwork, the kitchen, the parking (which is not a small issue in downtown), furnishings & finishes. All fantastic. My family joked that the headline should be something like "Thermostats in every bedroom!".

This home was truly stunning and beautifully. We flew our family in for our daughter's wedding and this was the perfect family home base for us. We could walk to our events at Husk and Collins Quarter and we were a short Uber ride to the venue but probably could have walked there too. There was more parking than we ever would ever need. The history was so fun to share. Our guests couldn't stop commenting on how much they loved their bathrooms! We hope to have the occasion to rent this home in the future. Would highly recommend this team and the Lucky crew we met during our stay.

House is amazingly beautiful and the upgraded bathrooms and appliances are awesome. House is large and rooms spacious. Furniture in the living room is not very comfortable for the quantity of people the house will hold. Road noise is terrible because the windows are all original. There is a fire station across the street that doesn't care that it is in a residential area. Perfect location otherwise and great off-street parking.

We had a fantastic trip to Savannah! There were some amazing experiences and memories created. A few critiques/suggestions/comments:

The location of the house in Savannah was perfect to everything to walk to!

I would suggest updating the furniture in the living area on main level to something more comfortable, or at least lose the white "dirty" couch and chairs that can't even be used. Maybe switch the furniture with basement level? Sitting around at night, it was not too comfortable with the family.

The noise (which I know you cannot do anything about), was pretty loud at night. I don't recall seeing anywhere that this house is located across the street from a Fire House, that is VERY active. Also, the street light is DIRECTLY in front of the bedroom windows. I would suggest adding blackout curtain in the GW Bedroom.

Again, we had a great time, but there were a few things that could have made the stay better.

5 couples were able to easily spread out and each have their own bedroom and en-suite bathroom. Each room was very clean and the full kitchen with amenities, such as plenty of glasses and plates, was nice to have an in home cooked meal the first night. For some reason the cable box was missing from the living room television which did not allow us to change the channel to catch the Field of Dreams game before bar hopping that night. All in all, the house is a spacious area that is perfect for larger groups looking to still have private bed and bath areas while being able to mingle on the first floor.

The General Lachlan Mcintosh house was fabulous. The newly renovated house is stunning with all the comforts of a newer home. Great location within walking distance of most historic Savannah sites.
