6 Things to Do This Holiday Season in Savannah

It’s hard to believe that it’s already the end of October, and the holiday season is fast approaching! Here’s our rundown of some of top events to experience around Savannah over the next two months!

1. Savannah Food and Wine Festival: November 7 - 13

The Savannah Food and Wine Festival features a star studded line-up of chefs, cookbook authors, events and premium wine and spirit brands from around the world. Enjoy a master cooking class taught by Savannah locals Chef Darin, Chef/Owner of Chef Darin’s Kitchen Table, or discover the Wines of Spain & Tapas with Chef Jean-Yves Vendeville, Department Head of Culinary Institute at the Savannah Technical College. Wear your best prohibition-era attire to the Secret Savannah Speakeasy and be ready to ready to meet the tastemakers of what Savannah eats and drinks with small-plate tastings and plenty of libations. With so many events to choose from, it’s no wonder this event lasts all week! You’ll need tickets for each event, so order yours soon!

 

2. Telfair Art Fair: Saturday, November 12, 10am–5pm, Sunday, November 13, 12–4pm

Delve into Savannah’s art world at the 22nd Annual Telfair Art Fair, held in beautiful Telfair Square in the heart of the historic district. Free, open to the public and family friendly, this open-air art show welcomes 80 artists from across the country, featuring an array of artistic disciplines, including painting, printmaking, digital media, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics/pottery, photography, furniture, glass, textiles/fiber, and more. Enjoy live music, vendors, and family crafts. Children’s activities are 12–4pm on Saturday and 12–2pm on Sunday.

 

3. Musique de France: November 19, 7:30pm

The opulent works of Berlioz, Debussy, and Ravel will be performed by the Savannah Philharmonic in a performance sure to enrapture the mind and ensnare the imagination. Internationally celebrated pianist Alon Goldstein joins the Savannah Philharmonic to “perform Poulenc’s witty and melodic Concerto for 2 Pianos in D minor.” Tickets to this event are $16-75 and may be purchased through their website.

 

4. A Christmas Tradition: November 24 - December 2

Beginning on Thanksgiving and running through December, the Savannah Theatre’s “A Christmas Tradition” is a two-hour variety show featuring Christmas standards that you know and love. An award-winning cast of singers and live band will perform classic Christmas favorites with a sprinkling of comedy and audience participation. Showtimes are Tuesday through Saturday at 8pm, with matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets are $37, $18 for children.

Note: The Christmas Eve show is at 11am and 3pm There is no show on Christmas Day.

 

5. December Nights & Holiday Lights: November 25 - December 23

Embark on a magical, self-guided walking tour through several differently themed gardens at the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens this Holiday Season. With more than 6 acres of historic farm buildings and gardens and over 800,000 twinkling lights, you’ll want to take your time as you explore the grounds. Stop in at Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen for a hot drink and sweets from local 4-H and other non-profits. All proceeds benefit their various programs. Spirited music will fill the air varying from live carolers to choirs and even orchestra concerts. $10 per person, children ages 3-12 are $5 and under the age of two are free.

 

6. 2016 Holiday Tour of Homes: December 10

For just one day, some of Savannah’s most stunning, private homes are graciously opened to the public by generous owners. Beginning at the Massie Heritage Center, where you will pick up your Tour Guidebook, this self-guided tour will take you through eight private homes and two museum houses while strolling through some of the most picturesque parts of downtown Savannah. Proceeds from the Holiday Tour of Homes go to protect Savannah’s unique downtown beauty. Tickets are $50 each and available for purchase online. Tickets do sell out, so make sure you get yours early!
