Lucky Local

This month we met up with one of our Lucky Savannah vacation rental property owners. Patrick Phelps is a local architect - focusing on commercial work at Hansen Architects, who moved to Savannah in the ‘90s and has been a loyal downtown resident for over 20 years. On any sunny day you’ll find Patrick walking down Broughton Street heading to or from a meeting or enjoying lunch with clients or co-workers.

Lucky Savannah: Why did you move to Savannah and what made you choose to stay?

P: Initially for college – and Savannah is such a beautiful town. I attended the Savannah College of Art and Design. I stayed after graduation because I liked the size of the community, the accessibility to beautiful architecture, the close proximity to the coast. And the funky vibe. There is a strong community here and I have been fortunate to build a strong peer network through it. Savannah is a quaint place, with a constant calendar full of cultural events. The quality of life here is what makes it special.

Lucky Savannah: What type of locations and events do you enjoy most here?

P: Top favorites include music festivals, Forsyth Park Farmer’s Market, and the state parks. For the past 3 years I’ve been attending the Savannah Stopover. This year, I am taking Friday off work so I can enjoy all three days - no work, all fun. It’s a perfect weekend to act like a tourist in my own town. I love an afternoon at Fort Pulaski, appreciating the historic architecture. For any guests that visit, I recommend the short drive to Skidaway Island State Park to learn about coastal history, enjoy a bit of hiking and explore nature.

Lucky Savannah: Why did you choose Lucky Savannah to manage your vacation property?

P: Because of their commitment to service - to our guests and towards us. And they are friendly people who care as much as about our home and the City as we do!

Lucky Savannah: What makes your property different than the other places you’ve seen in all your travels?

P: When you stay at a Lucky Savannah rental, you stay like and experience the city like a local. Of course our rental home has original and historic features and I know you can’t get that unique feeling (and all the comforts of home) in the majority of hotels around town.

Lucky Savannah: If you had friends visiting Savannah, they’d be lucky if…

P: Anyone would be lucky to visit Savannah and enjoy the spectacular flowers in Spring. I’d recommend a walk up Bull Street while the azaleas are in bloom.

Lucky Savannah: Why do you feel lucky to live in Savannah?

P: After traveling all of the world, it is still the most beautiful place I know.
