Whitaker Lane [1]
Historic Home with Modern Upgrades; Urban Getaway by Lucky Savannah
40th Anniversary
Reviewed on 2024-04-12 by Eric C. , Ferguson, NC USMy wife and I planned to spend our 40th anniversary in Savannah. After reading several reviews online we decided on 443 Whitaker Lane. The area was perfect, one block from Forsyth Park and really close to many of the Historic homes. We found the property without issue. Entering through the gate (had to jiggle the key) entering the courtyard was really nice (area with the patio above was nice in the rain) The apartment was directly on our left but required following the path around to the entry door. (Again jiggle the key) the apartment was really nice and had that new old theme down pat. Upstairs large bedroom and bath were really nice and the kin size bed was the most comfortable we have had while traveling. Although there were manors that shared the courtyard (we saw them at a distance),really the apartment was like our own private getaway. We sat on the upstairs balcony in the mornings and had coffee while enjoying the treetop view of the courtyard, the street and the breeze. The AC was a little loud but not terrible (most mini split units seem to have fan noise) and did keep our room comfortable. We cooked our breakfast every morning and the kitchen seemed well stocked. Overall we had a wonderful trip and look forward to our return to Savannah and hopefully Whitaker Street next year.

Nicely renovated carriage house, Fantastic location
Reviewed on 2024-03-08 by Austin D. , Sarasota, FL United StatesA great hidden and private space that has been nicely renovated. Just like the other reviews have mentioned. We plan on returning to it next year too. Also, easy street parking on Gordon St. during our stay during Christmas holidays when Savannah is pretty busy.
Perfect location and fantastic restored carriage house!
Reviewed on 2024-02-22 by Susan K. , Lakeland, FL USThe bed was super comfortable, and the entire unit was awesome. Loved the second floor balcony, as well as the doors opening up to the private courtyard. Loved that it was surrounded by a wall and our own door to get in. Very private, very safe. Parking on the street turned out to be no problem at all.
Terrific Location & Property
Reviewed on 2024-01-06 by Randy D. , Wayzata, MN UnknownThis property is perfectly located in historic savannah. Easy walking distance to great restaurants and most historic sites. The restoration of this unit was very well done with upscale finishes and classic design. Im a builder and appreciate what they did here. The bedroom suite is fabulous with lots of space and great bathroom. Kitchen has newer but used appliances and is pretty well equipped. There are a couple of quirky issues that may or may not be important to renters. The HVAC systems has two split units and the one upstairs was not working so they had a portable unit vented through the window. Downstairs unit was a bit load. The property is on a busy street so there is some street noise for lite sleepers. For some reason non of the kitchen cabinets had shelves limiting pantry storage and two cabinet door panels missing. I'd strongly recommend the owner correct these issues resulting in a completely amazing property. I'd also add a broom or vac and upscale the paper products. There were no coat hangers when we arrived but Luicky Savannah responded quickly with some. Overall very pleased with this VRBO and would rent it again.

Nice place
Reviewed on 2023-08-17 by Robert C. , Clarksville, TN USWe really enjoyed staying in this rental. It has a lot of character yet nicely remodeled. As others have mentioned, the AC unit upstairs is quite noisy, but the white noise machine we take everywhere helped to drown it out. We enjoyed sitting on the upstairs balcony which overlooks the courtyard. The location is great. There is so much to see and do in this area.
Great location
Reviewed on 2023-08-08 by , GAHANNA, OH USOverall our experience was good. The location was perfect for us. We loved the balcony. Both bathrooms are recently updated and nice. A few things - The mini split a/c units were annoying. They are loud and the remotes are confusing. Not sure if they were pre-programmed. The upstairs was consistently warm no matter what we did. The downstairs was consistently cold. . The gate and home entrance locks were very temperamental. The road is fairly busy, all hours of the night. Overall, our experience was good and we liked the home.
Great Stay
Reviewed on 2023-08-08 by Brab C. , San Gabriel, CA United StatesThis is a wonderful property. An 1850's home that's been tastefully updated, and an ideal choice for a couple. My wife and I loved the contemporary kitchen, stylish bathrooms, and icy air conditioning. Gratefully the lovely upgrades do not diminish the home's antebellum charm. The property is flanked by a gorgeous, private garden that gushes with Spanish moss and lush tropicals. You'll be steps away from the Mercer-Williams house and Forsyth Park. If I could change anything about the property, I'd install a washer/dryer. Regardless, this is a splendid home in a truly enchanting city. Highly recommended.

Reviewed on 2023-03-07 by , Greer, SC United StatesAs a couple who is in the real estate business we could nitpick on the home more than most. So, the only negative worth mentioning was we felt like the home could have used a deep clean and the AC units were pretty noisy. However, this won’t stop us from staying there again.
We absolutely loved our location. It’s right across from Forsyth Park in the historic district. The courtyard was beautiful and we enjoyed sitting out on the balcony. The house was just the right size for my husband and I, but definitely wouldn’t be enough room if we brought our kids.
As a couple who is in the real estate business we could nitpick on the home more than most. Loved it
Reviewed on 2023-01-19 by Lauren W. , Franklin, KY UnknownMy husband and I took a four day weekend getaway to Savannah. This place is perfect for two. It’s nestled away behind an old wooden gate and concrete wall which reminds me much of the movie The Secret Garden. It’s close to everything downtown which made it easy to get around. Parking is hit or miss. We were fortunate to find street parking each night and parked in garages during the day while we toured Savannah. If I had to make any suggestions it would be to change the AC/heat units because they do make quite a noise when they kick on. Also, none of the doors have curtains or blinds so folks outside who live across the the garden area can see directly into the living room, kitchen, and bedroom upstairs. But it’s such a lovely place and the view of the garden outside with the Spanish moss hanging was fabulous.

Weekend Retreat
Reviewed on 2022-10-20 by Samantha H. , Cincinnati, OH United StatesWe had a great time in Savannah and we really enjoyed staying in this carriage house. It is SO close to Forsyth Park and within walking distance to many restaurants and bars. Two things to note - the court yard you go through to get to your door is a little tricky if you're tipsy and the two air conditioners are quite noisy. The only other things we would suggest are putting a curtain of some kind up over the door to the balcony because you walk right passed it to get to the bathroom and at night someone could see in, putting handles on the inside of the barn doors to the bathrooms (especially the pocket door in the upstairs bathroom), and adding towel hooks for the downstairs bathroom. The rain shower heads in the bathrooms have us now wanting to upgrade ours at home! We would for sure stay here again!

Loved this Historic Carriage House!
Reviewed on 2022-06-10 by Emily S. , United StatesI have stayed in Savannah at several locations and this one was one of my top two. The location and proximity to so many restaurants and sites is the number one draw. The privacy of having your very own carriage house with upper balcony and shared garden space was wonderful. I particularly loved that this had to complete bathrooms. There are a few things I would recommend as changes to the facilities. Number one there are no handles on the inside of the bathroom doors which means you cannot completely close them. Number two there are no hooks or towel racks in the bottom bathroom which means there’s no place to hang a towel to dry your hands or body. There is definitely something wrong with the thermostat on both of the AC units because putting it on 78° was not quite cold enough but turning it down to 76° made it feel like Antarctica - there was no in between. Also, the bottom AC unit dripped and puddled all over the floor but we were able to put buckets and pots underneath it and mopped up the puddles with paper towels. There were sugar ants all over the kitchen but that didn’t bother us all that much. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the space upstairs was so romantic. I also really loved the upstairs bathroom, particularly the shower. I would have preferred if there was a curtain or blinds on the French door upstairs since it was right outside the bathroom and I’m pretty sure we could be seen on the inside while walking past. It also allowed light in in the morning but the rest of the room was dark enough to sleep in. I loved that just steps outside the main door was the public bus transportation and not far from that was a trolley stop. Mrs. Wilkes restaurant was right around the corner as well as several adorable boutique shops. This location is about 0.7 miles from River Street but the walk was lovely. Forsyth Park is only one block south and we enjoyed our time there as well. Overall I would absolutely stay here again in a he

Lovely Carriage House directly in downtown
Reviewed on 2021-04-02 by Sarah P. , Greensboro, NC United StatesThe pictures for this vacation house were very accurate. The roominess was wonderful and was perfect for both my new husband and me by ourselves and holding the other five members of our wedding party on the day of our wedding at Forsythe Park down the street. The garden is divine and romantic. The road noise during the day can be a bit much but it's on a main thoroughfare so is to be expected. At night it was blissfully quiet. The only complaint was that bed was too soft for my husband (but perfect for me lol) and the kitchen could stand a strainer so that pasta can be cooked easier.

Overall the unit was kept well, but there were some housekeeping issues in the master bath/shower. Street noise was noticeable, but not a huge distraction. The key benefit to this unit was the location and walkability to local areas, with many cute shops down the street and the Mercer antiques store nearby (for Midnight in the Garden fans). Quaint & Charming
Reviewed on 2019-02-26 by , Pembroke Pines, FL United StatesThe property is in a good location in terms of being able to walk the various squares, catching the free bus loop and parking. However, it is on a very busy street, with constant traffic noise at all hours of day and night; you have to try really really hard at night to tune it out. The property itself needs just a little TLC and/or final touches, for example: the area rugs are beyond dirty. This has been mentioned in previous reviews yet they look like they have never been cleaned. We never walked barefoot because of this. The main entrance door lock is extremely difficult. I would recommend having the kitchen door be the main entrance way, so you do not have to walk over mislaid bricks that are an accident waiting to happen, and the outside light by the main entrance into the property never went on (and could not find a wall switch to try and turn it on). However, the kitchen entrance doorway does have a light outside that turns on automatically at dust (hummm). Overall, if you do not mind the outside noise, it is a very nice area to stay at.

Noisy street, great home
Reviewed on 2018-09-12 by , Nashville , TN United StatesWe've stayed in this carriage house twice and love the location. It's near Forsythe Park and easy walking distance to a lot of restaurants and shopping, without being in the middle of the heavy tourist area around Broughton and Bay Streets. The home has a lovely private courtyard with a table and chairs. The only drawback for us is the noise. The home sits directly on a very busy street and buses, police, ambulances come by at all hours. I suggest downloading or using a noise cancelling app.

Great location for us
Reviewed on 2018-05-16 by , Nashville, TN United StatesThis home sits near Forsythe Park and is within walking distance of downtown. It shares an enclosed courtyard with the main house. Street noise at night can be easily overcome by downloading a Sleep Sounds app on your phone. The kitchen feels unfinished as there are no doors on the cabinet under the sink and the shelf above the microwave is missing. Entering the house for the first time is confusing since you enter the courtyard and have to walk to the opposite end of the house to enter. We enjoyed this home and have already booked another stay here. Lucky Savannah has provided professional service and beautiful rentals for us on several trips to Savannah.

The apartment was very clean which is something that I'm very picky about. The bed was comfortable; we loved everything about this place. It is in the heart of Savannah Historic Area, and we could walk just about anywhere in the area. We loved the shiplap, the balcony (although a little table out there would be nice), the garden area (except for the neighbors not picking up their dog ****), the bathrooms were very nice. I loved that it had a washer, but a dryer would be nice to have as well. Our overall satisfaction was great, the people with Lucky Savannah were great. I had to call them and they were very quick to respond and very nice to work with. The check-in and check-out was very easy, and it is a place that we would definitely stay again, and look forward to working with Lucky Savannah again for a great vacation in the future. Thanks

Charming, Modern Carriage House in a Great Location!
Reviewed on 2018-03-30 by , Jacksonville, FL United StatesThis property was very well laid out and made good use of a smaller space. It was almost immaculate, but the rugs do need to be shampooed. The location was great since it's convenient to everything but somewhat tucked away. However, it is right next to a busy street which can be quite noisy due to the traffic and garbage trucks that come by around 7:30 each morning. I would also suggest adding some blinds or curtains for the doors to help decrease the light from the street and cars passing by. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay and recommend this property.

We were interested in the design of the rental and were quite pleased with want we found. Some problems we encountered were, the light by the door into the rental did not work. It would have been nice to have light when coming back after dark. We had ants when we checked in, called the rental company and they sent someone over that night to take care of them. He could not figure out how to get the light on. There could be shelves in the cabinets and more than one dish towel. Upstairs there needs to be a curtain for the door leading to the balcony and there should be an instruction manual for the washer/dryer combo. Heating took a little while to figure out and get it set so that it stayed comfortable. On the plus side all the appliances worked and it was great having a large shower, even though it took a long time for water to get to the second floor. The rental was clean when we arrived. It is in a great location making it easy to walk to most places. The rental company was great and answered any question we had.

The only downside to staying downtown is that there was no provided parking, so we had to figure out the metered parking for each day. All in all it was a good stay!
We loved this home! It is set on a courtyard which is beautiful for having your morning coffee outside. The decor is beautiful and the kitchen was awesome. My favorite part, though, was the rain shower upstairs. So luxurious! Everything was very clean. Our only complaint is that there were a bunch of little sugar ants running around on any furniture that was pushed up against the wall, and also on the bathroom counter. We had to make sure to keep food and drinks away from there.
The location is unbeatable! We were surprised at how close we were to everything downtown. Savannah Getaway
Reviewed on 2016-10-25 by Megan S. , Tampa, FL United StatesMy (new) husband and I live in Tampa, FL so we visit Savannah fairly often - About 2 - 3 times per year. So, we decided to do a long weekend in Savannah (our favorite place) for a short honeymoon. We usually stay in a hotel, sometimes in mid-town to save some $$, but lately we really like staying downtown and it's worth the extra money spent per night for the convenience. When I came across Lucky Savannah, I knew we just had to rent from them! The apartment was exactly as described and pictured. Extremely clean, well-maintained, and we had NO issues with anything. It was about 0.8 miles from River Street, which wasn't even an issue as the weather was amazing and it was a straight walk downtown (and after all the food you eat, the walk is worth it!). I would absolutely recommend Lucky Savannah to anyone, and will absolutely be booking with them again in the future.

Reviewed on 2016-07-08 by Becky P. , Decherd , TN United StatesWhen we arrived, the apartment was easy to find, and it was is a great location.

Reviewed on 2016-05-06 by , Jacksonville, FL United StatesThis property was very well laid out and made good use of a smaller space.

Good Enough
Reviewed on 2016-04-09 by Lisa G. , Tucker, GA United StatesSpace was clean and had an industrial, minimalist look. The lighting throughout was dim so apartment seemed a little dark. There was not a single picture or any type of art work anywhere. I would suggest maybe some photography or something with a bit of color to brighten up the space. The bed was comfortable and the bathrooms were nice. There was a combination European washer/dryer which we were unable to figure out. There were no instructions. Even though was no specific parking lot. It wasn't too difficult to find spaces on the streets around the corner. Whitaker street is a major road and was noisy during the day but quieter at night and we had no trouble sleeping. It was a decent place to stay despite the minor problems.

Wonderful Rental in a Perfect Location
Reviewed on 2015-12-25 by Aaron H. , Knoxville, TN United States1. The space is beautiful and well designed. It was very clean. Kitchen is well stocked, but could use a kettle. Only other addition I'd make is a little rug to wipe your feet at the door.
2. The location is perfect: 2 minute walk from Forsyth park, 2 minute walk from local shops, 15-20 minute walk to River St. We walked or biked everywhere we went and loved the convenience.
3. Parking was easy as pie. We parked on Barnard St. South of gaston for free. Never had trouble finding a spot.
4. Must try places near by: eat and have coffee at Collins Quarter, drinks at The Public Kitchen, Shop at One fish Two Fish, lily bay, and Broughton St.
5. Our only complaint was that the AC units didn't seem to be working properly. This was an issue for us because it was old outside, but this may be an issue for those staying on warmer days. I told the management about this and would suspect they'll have it taken care of.
My wife and I spent 4 nights here as a little getaway to celebrate my grduation. I could spend a lot of time raving about this place, but will keep it short and informative.

1.
