Nice historical place, conveniently located
Reviewed on 2024-04-08 by Cory C. , Nibley, UT USThis basement accomodation was conveniently located near the town squares of Savannah. We enjoyed our stay in Savannah and liked the proximity of this place to the park and the river shopping and restaurants. The house was built in the 1800's and staying in the place was like going back in time. It was well kept.

Great Garden Apartment
Reviewed on 2023-05-11 by Kim R. , Jupiter, FL United StatesThe apartment was clean and inviting and as described. The shared courtyard was undergoing renovation but it was a great place for morning coffee or afternoon snacks. It is close to Forsyth Park and some great restaurants. Parking right near the apt is pay, but we found free parking only a couple blocks south and east. The lovely owner lives in the main house above; she is a long time resident and has a wealth of information. We had a couple hiccups, the entry code did not work and it took longer than expected for Lucky Savannah to get us the correct code (thank goodness for the courtyard), and we had an issue with the toilet but they had a plumber there within an hour! The front entrance is a little dark even during the day and I recommend a brighter light. Overall we had a great stay and definitely plan on visiting Gaston Garden again, as well as other Lucky Savannah properties.

Gaston Garden Apartment - all you need to know
Reviewed on 2023-04-26 by Kathy and Mike D. , Auckland , AUK New ZealandWe had an issue with linen on the first night but Lucky Savannah reps were quick to respond and resolve.
On the down side the name Garden Apartment is misleading. It is entry under the steps to the house and a set into the ground. The windows are small, shuttered and set at ground level shaded by garden shrubs or set under the house decks so the apartment is very dark. There is definitely no access to a garden. There are lots of lamps but the lighting is only ambient apart from in the kitchen. The laundry seems like it might be used to service all the Lucky properties as it was very busy. The noise isn’t an issue but to do a load of washing we needed to check several times and remove a finished load so we could wash ours.
The shower over bath is good but not as in the photo. That area is raised by a large step so wouldn’t be easy to get a photo. The bath is a standard low basic hotel shrub.
We would possibly book again but the low lighting would be the main reason to hesitate.
First the pros - great location out of town in safe suburbs, close to park and walkable 25 mins to downtown or free DOT shuttle goes close by. Apartment is large, nicely decorated with comfortable bed and good shower. Kitchen is well set up for equipment but nothing in cupboards other than salt and pepper. There is free parking close by so long as you head all street signs and any metered parks are only weekdays 8-5 at $1 per hour. <br/>We had an issue with linen on the first night but Lucky Savannah reps were quick to respond and resolve. <br/>On the down side the name Garden Apartment is misleading. A Perfect Savannah Spot
Reviewed on 2023-04-02 by John W. , Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ UnknownWhat a wonderful spot for a vacation to enjoy beautiful Savannah! Having stayed in this apartment a few times before, we were anxious to return this year for a month, and we were not disappointed. The entrance is quite private with an easy four steps down to the front door. While the apartment is a "basement" apartment, it has a large, sunny foyer that serves as an additional room, and living room that is welcoming. The furnishings have been lovingly used, but are very comfortable. The living room has up-to-date television/wi-fi as well. The bedroom is a large, comfortable room, quiet and away from street traffic, and the king-size bed has a wonderful mattress. Since we stayed for a month, we cooked often in a very useable kitchen that has good appliances and is well outfitted. Not always mentioned are the precious courtyard that I enjoyed often and the convenient laundry room. The property is well maintained and as clean as a whistle. The location is also perfect: two blocks from Forsyth, four blocks from Krogers, and walking/driving distance to everything else. The property owner is the most gracious person, affording us privacy but delightfully warm and friendly whenever we see each other. And Lucky Savannah personnel are amazing. One year, the dishwasher leaked, and the repair was completed that same afternoon, must faster and easier than at home. Every staff member is friendly, competent, responsive, and just plain lovely. We wish there were "Lucky's" in many cities across the US. Needless to say, we would recommend this property to anyone visiting Savannah, including ourselves since, yes, we hope to return!

Reviewed on 2023-03-02 by Josh D. , United StatesGreat location and really neat place. Addressing the following could pull it up to 5 stars: The directions on how to unlock the gate and door were strangely organized/ordered. Recommend rewriting the directions in order of what the guest does with more prominent text for the codes. Both couches must have been covered in cat dander, as my girlfriend and I, both allergic to cats, broke out in eye swelling and sneezing within 10 minutes of sitting on them, and that was the only time it happened. Need to upgrade from a drip coffee maker to a Keurig. Both umbrellas were broken. It was also difficult to figure out the cable tv menu/guide. Could not find the trash cans outside. Finally, given how much we paid for cleaning, it was off-putting to be told I needed to take out the trash. In my first experience contacting the rental company to ask if I cou store my bags somewhere when I check out, tbe employee answered back with a cut and pasted response about the check-in policy. It did made me feel like a number and she clearly wasn't reading what I asked.

It was close to Forsyth Park, where I could grab a coffee as a I started my day. The apartment was clean and I felt very safe, even walking home at night from dinner. I would highly recommend to others and will use it again in the future. Parking was a small challenge but I did find a spot two blocks away that was not metered and it worked perfectly. I started my first morning on the 90 minute trolley ride, which was a great way to understand where everything was. The city is so walkable and everyone I met was very friendly. I am 5'1" and barely fit without ducking. My husband has to duck and maneuver the stairs. There was no light at the bottom of the stairs. Given that he is low vision this made it very difficult to get into the apt. Once we arrived, the place was clean, neat, and offered most anything you would need. I was a bit disappointed that the furniture pictured was not present. Specifically, the leather chair was not present. Not a big deal to most, but we also have a surgically repaired neck that requires a chair with neck support and we booked this room thinking that would be a comfortable chair. The replacement chair was a wicker chair without the same neck support.
The lights....the chandelier has 6 lights, only 2 of which were working. One of the tableside lights in the living room was burned out. The bedroom - one light was burned out, the other would only turn on if you maneuvered the switch between on and off. To their credit, we contacted maintenance and they came out that day. They replaced lights in the living room, we now had a light in the entryway (yay!) but bedroom lights still didn't work. We were there for a short stay so didn't bother contacting them again.
The bed was comfy, the shower was good - they provide a little bit of shampoo, conditioner and soap. There is a step up to the toilet - not a big deal to most but would be for anyone with mobility issues. The location was excellent. The path to the garden was overgrown and difficult to get to - but again, that was probably due to our special needs.

City blocks in Savannah are very short, and we were only one block from the north end of Forsyth Park and about 2 blocks from the DOT free trolley. Savannah’s beautiful city squares began just around the corner, and the hustle of the river was walkable. A Kroger was only a couple of blocks' walk.
And despite being at the corner of Abercorn and Gaston, it was really quiet. There was only the occasional far-away rumble when a bus or a big truck went by.
The apartment was clean and very large. The furniture was eclectic and in character and it was much as it is shown in the photos.
What was not shown in the photos and is worth repeating is that it is very dark, despite all of the windows. Even on a sunny day, we needed to have the lights on in every room except the foyer, and my partner had to put on her makeup in the kitchen. There were plenty of lamps and lots of artificial light; it just wasn’t very bright. Even with the shutters wide open the windows were overgrown and offered little in the way of daylight.
The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was dated and, as noted, rather dark, but it was functional. All of the promised amenities were furnished and were fine.
The garden was overgrown and a little sad. We still sat out in it, but one of the chairs was broken, there was an abandoned fountain that didn’t work, and it all felt kind of forlorn.
The two t.v.’s were a mystery: there were a total of five remotes, and we never got the t.v. in the bedroom to work at all. To be fair, we didn’t care about them enough to contact Lucky Savannah.
And although Lucky Savannah had promised to let us know as soon as the property was available, they didn't. Then they sent us off in the wrong direction from their offices when we arrived.

How Often Can You Stay in a Place Built Before the Civil War?
Reviewed on 2021-06-04 by , Canton, GA USGarden and terrace appeared not to be ready for guests this year. Items were stored there, and it was overgrown and not cleaned. Maybe they are revamping this area?
This property has entry steps and a step in the bathroom, so it isn't a good choice for mobile disabilities. It was really dark with shutters closed, but we weren't there during the day so that was no problem. Bathroom needs better lighting so you can see to shave/apply makeup, etc.
Activity at the back door caused a little concern. We returned one evening to hear the washer/dryer in use. We decided that it must be shared with the upstairs owner/tenant. Or maybe we weren't supposed to use it? A neighbor knocked on the door to help an exterminator gain entrance. Wonderful lady! But, I would have been really freaked if I had been alone. A little better communication in the paperwork and a text that an exterminator is coming would solve these issues.
While we feel the property needs a few updates and some communication changes, we were pleased with the property and loved the location.

Driving around the downtown area would have been nice..if we could have found a parking place. After going around the block several times, accidentally turning on to a one-way street(trying to get into a parking garage)...we gave up.

Reviewed on 2019-07-18 by Frank A. , Concord, NH USThis is just what we were looking for... an old Savanah home, with furnishing to fit the home. Very comfortable. Kitchen well equipped, flat screen TV's in living room and bedroom. One block from Forsyth Park in the historic district. One block from the free bus route. Great location! We spent two days using the Hop-On-Hop-Off tour bus. Air conditioning work perfectly and we needed it as we were there in late June.

We did not take advantage of the free public transportation (The DOT) which has many stops in the downtown area. Great location!

Loved that we were 1 block away from Forsythe Park. Very clean and would definitely stay here again!!

Reviewed on 2018-09-17 by , TUPELO, MS United StatesWhen we first arrived we struggled with getting the key pad on the gate door to open. We tried the passcode repeatedly over about 15 minutes. We called the office for assistance. The representative was friendly but unable to help online. Eventually the key box opened so we could acces the key to the gate door lock. The key lock box was also difficult to close once we accessed the key. We had the same struggle to open the key box when we left and needed to return the gate key. I think the key box needs to be replaced. The house itself was cozy, friendly and clean. It is located just a couple of minutes from Forsyth Park. Although within walking distance to the Savannah action (15-20 minute walk) we found taking the free fare city bus to our preferred destination worked best for us. Once to the destination we could walk at a more leisurely pace and stop to view our surroundings. We slept great in the king size bed. It was very comfortable. However, we had a problem with the fitted sheet. It wouldn’t stay tucked so was a little annoying. We used the washer and dryer which was convenient and worked well. Good water pressure in the shower. Good internet and cable connections. We could see the House garden through the window and from the exterior grounds. However we couldn’t access it. A key was left in the house labeled as garden gate key but the key wouldn’t open the garden gate. Not sure what that was all about. The representative came by with some extra keys but none of those worked either. But it wasn’t a big loss. Most of our outdoor time was not spent at the house. Even with these couple of inconveniences I would definitely use the rental again and suggest it to others.

Reviewed on 2018-08-04 by Donna E. , Hamilton, NJ United StatesMy daughter and I had a wonderful stay at this cottage garden, we were in the perfect location down the street from forsynth Park. We were quite comfortable at the apartment it was spacious enough for the two of us and the full kitchen allowed us to have some meals at home rather then spend money on B/L/D every day, that was great savings for me. The washer and dryer also came in very handy half way through our week and we washed ball our clothes before we left, no laundry to do coming home. The living room was comfortable to hang out and watch tv at the end of the day, and there is also a tv in the bedroom. As a single mom traveling with my daughter I also appreciated the way the first iron gate was locked behind us and there was an electronic code to get in our door, once in I felt safe.

The kitchen was very useful and had all the conveniences of a short stay.
The living room and dinning table were barely usable. The dinning table chandelier light was not working. From reading the guest book, it has been like that for some time. This makes for eating dark meals, not exactly what you expect.
The living room furniture is all completely worn out. It seems to be pieced together from thrift stores. Everything is old and uncomfortable. The cushions are all flat and do not provide any support whatsoever. Certainly does not live up to the picture or equate to the value charged.
TV is basic non HD cable.

Reviewed on 2018-03-30 by Arnold K. , Berkeley, CA United StatesLocation was excellent, easy to walk to everything in the historic district. The courtyard garden in back was a great place to eat breakfast, see birds, enjoy the beautiful weather. The kitchen was well appointed--there was nothing we needed that wasn't there. If you plan on cooking, there was only pepper and salt there, so come prepared. WE had trouble trying to figure out how to turn the TV on--someone from Lucky Sav came over and re-set it. I would recommend instructions in the guest book telling which remotes did what and what channels had to be on to save themselves a trip.

A few comments about the apartment, I was a little surprised by the light level because the photos show it as brighter than it is inside. Of course, it is a garden apartment, but it was darker than the photos showed, and the lens used for the photos makes it appear taller than it was in person.
Bed was fine, but the pillows were were all stuffed full so there wasn't a good option for those of us who like soft pillows. Lastly - I didn't know how to get to our outside space, we loved the outdoor space in the photos, but I didn't know how to get to our space...or if it was ours since the side gate was locked. It didn't matter in the end - we ran out of time enjoying the city!

It had all the essential items we needed and it was in a nice quiet area. You do have to pay attention to the parking signs, but we never had a problem finding a space. A suggestion we have is it could really use a full length mirror. The small bathroom mirror is not quite sufficient. Some of the towels and washcloths were pretty rough and could be replaced. Overall a great stay!

Darling, welcoming garden apartment in the perfect location
Reviewed on 2017-08-05 by , Cookeville, TN United StatesMy husband and I stayed at this garden apartment for 5 nights. Even though we were only there in the morning and late evenings, I would not hesitate to stay there again, and we have every intention of returning. The apartment is adorable and very inviting. It is in the perfect location. It's close to the park in a quiet more residential area, while still being an easy walk to almost anywhere. There are tons of pamphlets on the entryway table that has info on anything you could possibly want to know more about. The bedroom is still pretty dark into the late morning if you prefer to sleep in a little on vacation. The area seemed very safe even at night, so you can do the late night hearse or ghost tours and not worry about walking home too late. Which is also where being able to sleep in came in handy. We could hear people occasionally moving around on the floor above us, but never heard voices. Privacy was never an issue. Parking is metered directly beside the residence. On the other side of that same street was non-metered and seemed to be a more popular place to park. We did the all day passes at the visitor center. Parking was never an issue. A few caveats, by no means a deal breaker for us. The bed is quite soft. If you are use to a firm mattress or high density memory foam it can be hard on your back. The ceiling fan in the master is very low and easy to hit your head on if very tall or even changing too close to the fan. You will need the fan too because it gets warm in the bedroom. Again, very minor issues. The residence was otherwise great, and Lucky Savannah was wonderful as well. The apartment is not super sleek snd modern, but if that's your thing, you just came to the wrong city. We loved it.

The only things I think that could be improved are the smell of the apartment (it has kind of a musky smell). This could be something that is native to Savannah that I am just not used to. Don't let that scare you - it wasn't bad and we got used to it very quickly. It was just different at first. Also the bathroom does not have a fan to vent the steam from the shower.. again not a big deal just a small issue. Its in the historic district so we weren't expecting all the bells and whistles. Definitely an older apartment with "historic" vibes. Overall we had a fantastic trip and I would highly recommend this apartment and lucky Savannah.

four great days in Savannah
Reviewed on 2017-04-19 by Arnold K. , Berkeley, CA United StatesLocation was excellent, easy to walk to everything in the historic district.

Lucky Savannah did not respond to maintenance requests sent via their app or via email.
A running race in the neighborhood closed roads on day I had to go to the airport; it would have been helpful to have a 'heads up' on that.
Kitchen had no cabinet to store non-refrigerated food and no staples (one packet of coffee but no sweetener or creamer, no spices, etc). Ice maker not working.

Perfect location!
Reviewed on 2016-09-21 by Giselle R. , Palo Alto, CA United StatesLucky Savannah was great, they were responsive and the app was easy to use. I also liked having a keycode front door, one less thing to lose.
We used to live in Savannah and when we decided to return for a visit we knew that the location for our home base would be really important. The toilet was not bolted well to the floor and could be moved with ease. This could pose an issue with sanitation eventually and does not bode well for the overall upkeep of this apartment.

It was a very warm welcome, literally. To say that the unit was spacious would be an understatement. The bathroom was immaculate, water pressure was good, and the fragrance of the toiletries was inexplicably comforting. The hosts had attended to many details, such as providing flashlights useful for evening jogs in the park.

Great location!

Parking is on the street which was no issue at all. Everything went as planned planned which is unusual when all planning is done over the Internet. While in Savannah this will be where we will stay. Y'all will love this large apartment for 2.

Our Gaston Gdn. apt. was wonderful: very spacious, well-maintained,lovely furniture, well-equipped kitchen, close to grocer and the entire historic district. We had a small problem with the entry code but sorted it out with management, which was professional, friendly, and attentive. We toured several historic homes and Bonaventure Cemetery, took a ghost tour, lots of shopping!! Walked everywhere and would recommend the hop-on, hop-off bus for one day. Highly recommend Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room for lunch and The Olde Pink House for a special dinner, plus The Public (great Happy Hour), on Bull St., the Gryphon Tea Room on Madison Square, and the Kayak Cafe on Broughton St.(the best pecan pie ever!). A fabulous trip, would definitely recommend the Gaston!!

Savannah Stay
Reviewed on 2015-10-16 by Sharon F. , Palo Alto, CA United StatesGaston Street is a great location if you want to see Savannah by foot. The apt. is very comfortable and well stocked. We especially appreciated that Lucky Savannah immediately sent two internet professionals over when we called to say we were having internet issues. The only slight inconvenience we encountered was the towels never quite dried due to the humidity. A bathroom fan would help somewhat. But as there is a clothes dryer to use, it really wasn't a major problem. We would most definitely stay again if we return to Savannah.
