Reviewed on 2024-03-02 by George K. , United StatesThe location is perfect for visiting beautiful Savannah, and the free DOT shuttle bus makes the entire historic district easily accessible. A Fine Vacation
Reviewed on 2023-05-16 by James B. , TIGARD, OR UnknownMy wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The apartment was filled with period furniture that you do not see in rentals. The kitchen and bathroom were basic and adequate. The bed was comfortable. The place was clean but could use some deep cleaning and touch up painting. There is no key for the front gate so all entries are made through the back lane using keyless locks whch frees you from carrying keys. The wifi did not work but we used cellular data for our internet needs. The location is fantastic. We were 2 blocks from Forsyth Park and the free DOT Shuttle bus. The neighborhood has many restored victorian mansions. We could walk to many of the best restaurants including Clary's, Crystal Beer Palace, and a splurge night at 700 Drayton. We felt totally emersed into old Savannah.

WE LOVE IT!! Ultimate Charm
Reviewed on 2022-11-21 by Dawn W. , Folly Beach, SC United StatesWe LOVED the Canterbury Garden Apartment! It is absolutely charming, a perfect size for two people with plenty of room, yet cozy and welcoming at the same time. If it is a sunny day you will get a good amount of light through the dining area's windows. Very comfortable large bed and plenty of room for your clothes and belongings, and yes was very clean. We loved the outdoor area so much, and were able to keep our bicycles outside. A tighter fit, but we didn't have a problem parking my boyfriend's truck in the assigned space. This rental is absolutely full of Savannah charm, from the painted brick interior walls, the ceiling beams, to the adorable garden side walkway, wish I could post my photos! Though pics don't do this place justice, it's more adorable in person! If you intend on walking, you will be about a mile from River Street, adjacent to Chatham Square which is beautiful and peaceful, you'll feel like you're a local as this is a peaceful, non touristy section of Savannah. Crystal Beer Parlor is a fabulous restaurant & bar in close proximity, also recommend The Public, Artillery Bar, and then also Clary's Cafe for breakfast. We were fortunate to have a respectful group staying upstairs, and no children running around. You will hear upstairs noise, yet I'd expect that with a garden apartment in any historic Savannah house. Would we stay here again? ABSOLUTELY. It is beyond charming and has the best vibe!! Love Lucky Savannah! Also, ask about the gate if you need to, it can be a bit tricky to work at first.

Only had one bulb (should be 3), the one that had a bulb quit working and only one other receptible worked and after switching the light bulb it quit working. The picture makes it look well light and bright which is not the case. Needs some general maintenance, doors etc. The garden area is nice but has been neglected.

Perfect unit and city
Reviewed on 2022-07-03 by Jake W. , Brownsburg, IN USWe loved our stay in Savannah and the Canterbury Garden Apartment. The app made the process of checking in and out super easy. The staff responded quickly and professionally when contacted with questions, and they made it easy to add an additional night. The unit itself was very charming with the exposed beams, nice furnishings, walk in shower and lovely garden courtyard. It is in walking distance to everything which was perfect for us, and the parking spot kept me from having to worry about parking. We hated leaving, but we will definitely be back.

Reviewed on 2022-05-04 by Tiffany B. , Canton, OH United StatesWe have stayed here 2 times, we love the location everything is within walking distance. Getaway Garden Home
Reviewed on 2022-02-21 by , Bloomington, IL USThe property was in a nice location. If you are driving to Savannah you want a place with parking and this place had that in the alley of the property. Had all the amenities that we needed and the shower was wonderful. The Lucky Savannah app did not work for us but they gave us the codes to the property with a phone call. The wi-fi was spotty at times and yes like many others have reviewed you can hear the footsteps and speech of the people above you. We had this 3 of our 5 nights and we counterbalanced it at night with white noise from our phones. You can walk most everywhere and things are closer than they seem to be. Need a rest, find a park bench and park (they are everywhere) and enjoy.

Location can't be beat
Reviewed on 2022-01-19 by Michael M. , Denver, CO United StatesThe location is phenomenal: just far enough way from Broughton and River to avoid the noise and hassle, but close enough to walk. Also, super convenient to getting on and off the freeway to get in and out of Savannah, plus a parking spot! Near Chatham Square, this unit gives you the feel of being in the neighborhood and is safe (and fascinating) to walk about at night. The master bedroom is roomy with a comfortable bed, but the pull-out sofa in the living room isn't for anyone with a spine. Also, they should strongly consider fixing the gate. It's an unnecessary hassle for the price.
Great location in Historic District
Reviewed on 2021-12-18 by Barbara D. , Vevay, IN USSpent 3 days exploring the historic district on foot. We walked an average of 4 miles daily and did not use a car or public transportation. The apt is centrally located in a quiet neighborhood. Pros: designated parking, private garden, fully equipped, good value - better than getting a hotel room. Cons: stairs, uneven walks, 1 bath in bedroom, sleeps 4 but no privacy. This place is perfect for 2 people.

Charming Apartment in Historical District
Reviewed on 2021-07-03 by Phyllis P. , DALLAS, TX United StatesThis rental property was located in a beautiful section of the historical district within easy walking distance to major points of interest. A designated parking space was an added bonus. Access to property was through a gated courtyard in the rear of the property. Access codes were provided so you do not have to keep track of keys. There were no guests when we were there so place was very quiet. The apartment has a comfortable vintage feel. The tile floors were cold and some area rugs would be a welcome touch. Because the unit is on the ground floor, the lighting tended to be dark. However, overall a great value in a fantastic location.

1. We did not find the noise from upstairs to be unacceptably annoying in the least.

3. The bed was comfy. Great shower. Lots of lighing.
4. The kitchen had all the equipment you woukd need for simple cooking and some coffee filters, too, but only salt, pepper in terms of spices/condiments.
We were enchanted the minute we entered the appartement! Plenty of charm and comfort in a superb location. We can’t imagine why anyone would stay closer to the river with the hoards (this was Memorial day and SCAD graduation weekend), noise, commercialization. We loved our visit to Savannah. Cute Little Cottage
Reviewed on 2020-10-22 by , Beverly Hills, CA United StatesCute, cozy and clean on the inside. The only concern was the amount of "creepy crawlers" on the property. I came home with 5 bites (only slept one night on the sleeper sofa) but what's worse were the worm-like creatures that kept coming in from beneath the front door; we had to place a sheet under both entryways to prevent them from coming in overnight. The property needs to be sprayed with something strong since the Lysol nor RAID Home & Garden worked.

Very convenient location to many parks, short Uber ride to the river and city market area. The only issue, which was a major one, was the noise level from upstairs. It was basically like a house with paper thin walls. We could hear every footstep and every conversation. This was especially frustrating at 3 AM on Friday and Saturday night when the upstairs guests came home from the bars. Needless to say it was difficult getting sleep as the downstairs tenant. I would highly advise if you stay in this apartment to bring good earplugs and even then that might not help. There should be rules for the upstairs tenant on noise levels after 10 PM. Would not stay here again solely because of this.

VERY DISSAPPOINTED
Reviewed on 2019-04-14 by Richard S. , Timberlake, NC United StatesWe've spent our honeymoon, first anniversary, and this time for our third anniversary in this historical and cozy little apartment. This time very disappointed. We took our shoes off at the door as we do at home, after we brought our luggage in. We sat down on the sofa after unpacking and I told my wife how black the bottom of her feet were. I looked at mine and they were the same way. (Mind you this is approximately one hour inside the apt.) Apparently the floor hadn't been mopped very well lately. Two days later one of the housekeeping staff unlocked our coded door and walked in unannounced (They had not been informed of the floor as of this time.)She said she was there to check on the property. My wife informed her that we were renting it until Thursday which was four more days. The lady then left. Thirty minutes later an exterminator did knock and identified himself and he too thought no one was there. He said he would come another day and apologized. We contacted the management about these two intrusions and they were very apologetic. We didn't think about telling them about the filthy floor because we were both very frustrated at the time while trying to take a nap because we had not slept well the nights we had been there due the worn out mattress on the bed. The front gate no longer has a lock on it so anyone could walk in off the street to the back of the property or side door. It doesn't much sense to have a sign inside the property saying KEEP GATES LOCKED when there's no lock on it.

Location and thoughtful extras
Reviewed on 2018-04-24 by , Roslindale, MA United StatesThis house was really well stocked with things you forget to bring like umbrellas, bug spray, laundry detergent, toilet paper, AAA touring books and even some classic reads and videos. I was worried that the apartment would feel/smell basement-y but the big window to the outdoor garden in the dining room made that not an issue. Our family of 3 loved the amazing location and the horse drawn carriage clopping around Chatham square. We walked to the Telfair Museums, the river, forsyth park and most f the other squares. The pull out couch mattress was a bit on the thin side for the teenager but the extra blankets (see well stocked above) proved to be a good mattress pad. It was a great apartment and the included parking space was really helpful. You should go!

The layout of the unit is great and it's really nicely appointed, making for a very comfortable stay. The photos and description of the property were as appears on the VRBO website -- there were no surprises, which we were happy to see. The management team sent out helpful information in advance of arrival and was available for questions/comments throughout our stay -- they were very responsive whenever we had questions and very courteous and friendly!
A Tale of a Pleasant Time at Canterbury Apartment
Reviewed on 2018-03-30 by , Jefferson City, MO United StatesMy wife and I have been to Savannah many times before for 1 or 2 B&B nights and longed for a trip dedicated to this wonderful city with more time. We finally made the plan for a week there and spent a lot of time looking for the right place to stay. Location was important because we love Forsyth Park and like to shop and eat downtown and historical area and we love to walk at the park and downtown and boy did we ever...great time. Value was also important up to the point that we wanted the flavor of the city in the apartment. The Canterbury Apartment filled the bill nicely. It was a little hard to visualize the apartment's features by the pictures online but we called and talked to the agents when we had questions. It is only a 1 bedroom but that is all we needed. The sofa does fold out for an added guest or two but it worked well for the 2 of us. The furnishings reflected the culture of the city and we were always commenting on a nesting table or a vase here and there. Most importantly there were no surprises. What was advertised is what you got and it was very nice. The back courtyard area and off street parking were very handy although the Chatam Square area seamed to have street parking also. Some reviews voice an issue with noise in the upstairs apartment. There was no one there for the whole week however when the cleaning crew was there we definitely heard a lot of noise. Again the agent's said if it was bad they would address it. Would definitely recommend this apartment for couples with same needs.

Reviewed on 2018-03-30 by James D. , Rochester, NY United StatesI was fortunate (lucky?) to find the Lucky Savannah agency through TripAdvisor. From beginning to end it was a great experience. Initial contacts by phone and email were handled promptly and professionally and when my first choice apartment was unavailable other options were suggested. My selection of the Chatham Square unit turned out to be an excellent choice. Located in a renovated 4-unit home from the 1800's it was interesting, nicely furnished and well maintained. The fenced shared patio garden and off-street designated parking were additional bonuses. The patio allowed us to meet guests from the other units and the parking let the car go unused. Front and back entrances were well-secured. The neighborhood, located on one of Savannah's 24 historic squares was quiet and conveniently walkable to the city's attractions, historic homes and great restaurants, including A.Lure, Local 11Ten, Alligator Soul and The Florence. Also take Jonathon's Architectural Walking Tour. I would definitely recommend Lucky Savannah to anyone considering a visit here as an excellent alternative to a hotel. My only regret would be the realization that there are not any other "Lucky" agencies in other cities.

Reviewed on 2018-03-30 by William C. , Hendersonville, NC United StatesThis was our second stay at the Canterbury Garden Apt. And, we have already booked next year's stay! The arrangement with Mrs. Wilkes' for lunch was a great bonus, not to be missed. Because of the location, we could walk to just about everywhere in the historic area. Having off-street parking is a huge plus. We loved The Crystal Beer Parlor, which was within walking distance, the Pie Society Bakery (for yummy English-style baked goods) and our favorite of favorites - the Sundae Café on Tybee Island, which is not to be missed. One Fish Two Fish is a favorite shop, also within walking distance, and the Frayed Knot on State St. is lovely-if you like to knit, or even if you just like to browse in a friendly atmosphere. The Shaver Book Store is fun to explore just off Bull Street, directly across the square from the Gryphon Tea Room, both also a short walk from the apartment. The farmers' market in Forsyth Park on Saturday morning is also fun to explore and, again, is just a short walk from the apartment. Lots to see, lots to do, and lots of fun!

The king bed was comfortable and the bedroom was quiet and dark. It was located conveniently to view historic homes and parks. With a bus stop, the free DOT, located a block away, riding to and from the harbor allowed us several times to keep our car parked in the parking spot that came with the apartment. Day trips to the beaches and eating at various restaurants added to the pleasure of the trip. Since the weather was nice we enjoyed sitting in the private garden some evenings. Other times we rode the DOT to the harbor watched events like the lighting of the Christmas tree and the lighted boat parade.

However, the mattress in which my wife and I slept on was lumpy and uncomfortable. Both my wife and I are in our mid twenties and we thought it was uncomfortable. Reminded me of sleeping on a futon I tossed and turned most of the night. Also, there were dirty dishes left in the dishwasher. Fortunately the owner left detergent to wash the dishes with, but still I shouldn't have to clean up someone else's mess. Other than those issues the apartment was very cozy. The historic architecture was beautiful. I'd recommend this place if it had a better mattress and was a little cleaner.

Reviewed on 2016-08-25 by , Arlington, VA United StatesMy stay was very enjoyable here. The apartment was clean, spacious, quaint, and in an extremely convenient location (close to Forsyth park and historic district, walking distance). Having our own parking spot for the apartment also made things very easy. I was also amazed as to how easy the check in and check out process was. Would definitely recommend this to a friend!

Reviewed on 2016-07-31 by , Lorton, VA United StatesThis is a very nice rental property in a great location in Savannah, on a quiet square and accessible (walking or driving) to all the sights in the historic district.
Reviewed on 2016-07-12 by , Jefferson City, MO United StatesMy wife and I have been to Savannah many times before for 1 or 2 B&B nights and longed for a trip dedicated to this wonderful city with more time.

Reviewed on 2015-04-25 by James D. , Rochester, NY United StatesI was fortunate (lucky?) to find the Lucky Savannah agency through TripAdvisor.

Canterbury Garden Apartment Review
Reviewed on 2015-02-28 by William C. , Hendersonville, NC United StatesThis was our second stay at the Canterbury Garden Apt. And, we have already booked next year's stay! The arrangement with Mrs. Wilkes' for lunch was a great bonus, not to be missed. Because of the location, we could walk to just about everywhere in the historic area. Having off-street parking is a huge plus. We loved The Crystal Beer Parlor, which was within walking distance, the Pie Society Bakery (for yummy English-style baked goods) and our favorite of favorites - the Sundae Caf on Tybee Island, which is not to be missed.
